The Stranger Who Fell for My Cat First
I matched a girl and within ten seconds she was paying more attention to my cat than to me. I have never been so second-place in my life, and honestly, I respect it.
My cat, Milo, jumped onto my desk right as we matched. The girl on the other end went completely quiet, stared, and then said, in a voice I had not heard her use on me, “hello, beautiful, who is this majestic creature?”
“That’s Milo,” I said. She ignored me entirely. For the next twenty minutes she had a full, animated conversation with my cat, who was just sitting there, unimpressed, occasionally blinking. She did not care. She was fully committed.
At one point I said “you know he’s not going to answer, right?” and she said “he’s communicating with me through his eyes, you’re just not tuned in.”
When we finally talked to each other, we still had a great time, but it was very clear who the star of the show was. As she was leaving she said “tell Milo I said bye, and that he’s the best part of this whole site.” I told him. He blinked. She’d have loved that.
It was one of the most entertaining random chat sessions I’ve had, and it reminded me that the people you meet on here can surprise you in the best, funniest ways.
